Hidden Fortune: Unexplored is a Adventure Puzzle game for the Vive Focus, for which I was the UX/UI Designer.
Just days after Hidden Fortune’s Daydream launch, HTC revealed its new standalone headset, the Vive Focus. We were asked to redesign the game to take full advantage of the 6dof headset, and Hidden Fortune: Unexplored was released in January 2018.
Tutorial & FTUE
Teaching the user to embrace their new ability to explore was the biggest challenge in redesigning the tutorial. We wanted to take full advantage of space, through walking, crouching, and reaching above.
We decided to use progressive disclosure to teach the user how to interact with objects around them, teleport to new areas, use their magic bag to collect quest items and travel to new worlds!
To really help differentiate Unexplored as a new, fresh experience we decided to give the entire game an updated UI.
To make it more mature, I gave it cohesive colour scheme, flattened the art and “grittied” it up a bit.
Using less saturated colours allowed the UI to stand out (in a good way) — whereas it blended into the colourful world around before.
